Pollarding 98 Lime Trees in Tidworth

A “before, during and after” of pollarding 98 Lime trees in Tidworth.  This was the last few of 98 done over the winter months. Good job done by Scott, Antony and Cleeve.
If you’ve never spotted our page of definitions of tree work, check it out here.

We used both our 26m MEWPS, including our most recent one, the Teupen LEO 23 GT –  ideal for quick, efficient jobs: It is especially suited for job sites that provide little space and require great working heights. It has a variable and quick multi-position stabilising system, 180˚rotatable basket and flexible articulated and telescopic boom.  See here for full details of our three MEWPS.

Clearing of dense scrub at Blandford Camp (contd)

Further pictures of the fence clearing project and clearing of dense scrub at Blandford Camp.  A new stock fence is to be erected to allow grazing of cattle on Monkton Down SSSI, to control scrub and aid chalk grassland.  The old fence has been removed for recycling.

Grenade Range Refurbishment Warminster April 2021

Something a little different for us  – we recently started a project to refurbish a grenade range at Warminster.
We needed to remove 500 tons of limestone gravel, undertake repairs to the sub-base and increase the area to the required specification.
The throwing bays were also dug out and will be restored once the main range floor has been reinstated.

Covering an ancient burial site with chain link mesh March 2021

Something different this week:  we needed to cover an ancient burial site ( Tumulus ) with chainlink mesh to prevent the local badger population from calling it home; this helps to preserve anything inside the mound.   The funny shape was caused by tanks driving over it for practice before heading off to active duty in WW1!
The area is called Snail Down at Everleigh.  See the Historic England information here.
With thanks to Wiki: A tumulus is a mound of earth and stones raised over a grave or graves. Tumuli are also known as barrows, burial mounds or kurgans, and may be found throughout much of the world. A cairn, which is a mound of stones built for various purposes, may also originally have been a tumulus. Wikipedia

Repairing fences on Salisbury Plain

A little fresh on Salisbury Plain today repairing fences around ancient burial grounds.

Old fences were in need of repair so we were asked to add new fence posts to the existing fences to prolong the life of them.  In all approx. 1500m in two areas

Tristan drove the tracked post driver with Adam and Tad stapling the wire to the posts behind him.

Fence project to protect the lake providing disabled fishing at Tucking Mill

A fence project to protect the lake providing disabled fishing at Tucking Mill Nr Bath. We used 6ft high wire mesh with gates to match and green 358 mesh around the sluice.

See the link to the Tucking Mill Reservoir here

You can read about 358 mesh security fencing on our website here: “358 Security Mesh is incredibly strong and is the ideal solution for a wide variety of high-security perimeter and access control applications.  The mesh is made from 75mm x 12.5mm x 4mm galvanised material and polyester-coated welded mesh fabric. Whilst its main use is for Utility companies, prisons, secure units and high-security needs, it can also be used for schools as the look of 358 mesh is not as “hostile” as Palisade.  It is:….
