Picus technology

We returned to Manton to check the health of an ailing beech tree using PICUS technology.

The PICUS Sonic Tomograph is used for non-invasive tree risk assessments in order to measure the thickness of the residual wall of trees with internal defects such as cavities or decay.  See more information here.

We were concerned with the tree because of the large fungi brackets on one side.  And what the assessment showed was that the tree was rotten in the middle and sadly had to be removed for safety reasons.  It’s like giving the tree an MRI scan. Amazing bit of kit.

Dismantling a Lime Tree in Tockenham, east of Lyneham and southwest of Royal Wootton Bassett

The lime tree had become unstable due to decay at the base so Rich and his team were called in to dismantle carefully…

We were accompanied by our friend Pierre over from France for a week to see how we do things this side of the channel –  better of course!

For details of all our tree surgery services, check out our web page here

Hedge trimming at Manton, Marlborough

We undertook 600m of 8-12ft high Beech hedge trimming at Manton, Marlborough.  The hedge was around the formal gardens, with poor access and tender lawns,  so all the work was done by hand with just a hedge trimmer;  well four actually and using our MEWP where possible!

For details of our tree and hedge surgery capabilities please see our web page here.

Protech EV02 tracked self-propelled post driver

Protech EV02 tracked self-propelled post driver – steep or wet ground conditions will be helped by the upgrading of our fencing machinery with the addition of a tracked self-propelled post driver from Protech, called the EV02.  This will be a full spec machine able to carry posts and wire and make no mess or access steep terrain.
Currently being built and will be with us by the start of December this year.

Dismantle Lime tree Marlborough

In August we had to dismantle a 100ft lime tree in Marlborough, together with clearing some smaller trees and shrubs and stump removal and grinding.

The timber was collected and moved across to  Barbury Castle Estate on the Marlborough Downs to be used as part of the horse trial course.  We try very hard to recycle as much as we can.

If you require woodchip for the garden or larger projects we have plenty in our yard and you are welcome to collect it FOC.

Please email William to let him know what you require.

Tracked Chipper

Our new ‘go anywhere’ tracked chipper allows us not only off road but also to meet the majority of challenges where we’re needed to get into difficult areas.  Whether narrow, uneven, sloping or soft ground conditions, we will be able to help.

Yet another example of Conservation Contractors getting to those areas that others can’t reach!

Wadswick Green, Corsham

Our work at Wadswick Green, Corsham continues… This is the new retirement village.

The pictures show the results of our efforts after two days’ strimming and brush cutting – all previously covered in brambles and nettles and an eyesore.   And, look!  We found a pond!!  The second image shows watering of freshly planted shrub beds due to lack of rain.

See here for further details of some of the work we’ve undertaken for Wadswick Green.
